Akari

A couple of years ago we had a visit from Silvia – an Italian glaze expert. She spent a week or two in our lab experimenting with reactive and raku effects – so popular in Japanese ceramics.

The colours and textures were rich and they developed intriguing edge effects – just what we were after! We launched a range of colours and shapes. Every piece was unique. The problem was that they were a bit too unique and each batch was different to the one before.

Sadly, Akari gave us such headaches, we had to withdraw it from the market.

Lamenting the loss, we started to experiment to see if we could recreate the reactive look with a digital print. It worked and we are stoked with the result – beautiful glossy colours – completely predictable. Yay!

Akari comes on a 300 x 300 mm tile that is scored to Fingers format and Squares format. When installed and grouted, Akari tiles create the look of a seamless mosaic.
