Colourful square Zellige tiles come from Morocco. The technique is centuries old- clay is hand-shaped, hand-dipped in glaze, hand-stacked - like a house of cards and surrounded by an igloo of fire bricks. After wood-firing, they are hand-chiselled into sharp-edged squares, each piece slightly different owing to the materials and position in the kiln.

They are incredibly beautiful – as wild as north Africa.

Inspired by this tradition, we set out to tame the beast and create a subtly rustic square in a colour palette tuned to Australian tastes. We named it Juma to celebrate its African heritage. It means “Born on a Friday” from Arabic and Swahili which happened to be the day it was created.

Juma has 16 faces – each one in a slightly different shade – this really makes your feature come alive.

Each tile has a slight ripple in the surface and edge – still square and easy to lay, but with a hand-made look. The light play on the gloss surface is really beautiful.

Juma comes in 6 colourways designed to resonate with the Australian market – not too bright, not too soft.

Each colour is available in a silky satin matt finish or a brilliant high gloss – both easy to clean.
